Partial Crowns - Inlays/Onlays
Partial Crowns – Inlays/Onlays

When over 1/2 of the tooth’s biting surface is damaged we will often use an inlay or onlay to restore it. Inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin. They are fabricated in a laboratory for a precise fit and bite. Like a puzzle piece they are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. These restorations will last a very long time and usually prevent the need for a future crown. Whereas traditional fillings can reduce the strength of a natural tooth by up to 50%, inlays and onlays are bonded directly onto the tooth using special high-strength resins and actually increase the strength of a tooth by up to 75%.
